What is a healthy BMI for Bangladeshis?
For South Asians the WHO Asia-Pacific guideline treats a BMI of 18.5 to 22.9 as normal, 23 to 24.9 as overweight and 25 or above as obese, because health risks start at lower BMI than in Western populations.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. For example 70 kg and 165 cm gives 70 ÷ (1.65 × 1.65) = 25.7.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
BMI is a quick screening tool. It does not separate muscle from fat, so athletes, pregnant women and children should be assessed by a doctor.
How can I lower my BMI safely?
Aim to lose about 0.25 to 0.5 kg per week with a modest calorie deficit, more vegetables and protein, less sugar and fried food, and daily walking. Track your meals with a photo using DoctorCare.bd.
